Abu Haider, MCSD - C#, ASP.NET Developer

I am currently working as the System Designer and Lead Programmer at HouseLocator.com, Inc. (www.houselocator.com). I am skilled in Web Application Development with ASP.NET 3.5, C#, SQL Server 2008 and associated technologies.

My career began with becoming a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) in 2000. Those days I worked in Visual Basic/SQL Server and developed client/server applications.  Later I started Web Design and Development with HTML and classic ASP. I have also studied, worked with and tought Adobe Photoshop since my early days. In 2003 I switched to ASP.NET and C#. It has been a joy to follow all the new Technologies that help us to be more efficient at what we do.

These days much more than HTML and Programming is needed for Web Development. Over the years I had to become proficient in Standard Compliant HTML coding, CSS, Browser Compatibility, Search Engine Optimization, Writing Copy for the Web, Analytics, Statistics, Web Marketing and what not!

System Administration Skills

Besides designing Websites and Developing Web Applications, my work also involves managing an infrastructure consisting of about 10 Servers located in multiple Datacenters. Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 Servers (both 32 bit and 64 bit platforms) with services like IIS, Mail (SMTP, POP3, IMAP & WebMail), DNS, FTP, SQL Server, Backup, Traffic Analytics, Source Code Repository (Subversion) etc. I designed this geographically disparsed Network of servers, their security, backup strategy, connectivity and everything else. Recently much of my spare time went into studying Microsoft Hyper-V.

I have limited experience with Linux, Ubuntu Server in particular.

Besides all These...

I have been studying Karate, Aikido and Judo for over 15 years. My day's work involve intense brain work, so the intense physical workout in the evening brings a balance between my mind and body. Currently I am a third degree black belt (Sandan) in Shotokan Karate.

Hobbies

My hobbies tend to turn into my profession at some point. I like to figure out how things work. Growing up my hobby was to learn. I learned to bind books, make picture frames, crafts etc., repair shoe and do electrical wiring. Making electronic projects was my biggest hobby in high school, which eventually led me to study Electronics in college. I would like to think Digital Photography is my hobby, but I frequently do it as a part of my job. I do like to visit mountains though. See my photos on flickr.

Weakness

I hate repetative work! Here is my strategy when it comes to repeating simple tasks over and over:

  1. Automate the process
  2. Find a new (preferably better) way of doing it
  3. Delegate the work to someone else
  4. Suck it up and do it anyway.
Not necessarily in the same order.
